Give every removed part a traceable identity before it leaves the work area.
Photograph the assembly, label its location and orientation, and keep suitable small hardware in clearly marked containers. Group parts by system and restoration stage, with separate locations for items to clean, inspect, repair or replace. Keep a simple inventory that connects the label to the photo folder and storage shelf. Protect finishes and delicate pieces, and store hazardous materials according to their handling instructions. Do not assume a removed fastener is suitable for reuse. This system turns a mystery box months later into an identifiable assembly.
